Stories of Animal Abuse and Neglect
STOP IT!
By Grey Poodle of LuckyDogMart.com
Grey Poodle looked at various cases posted on pet-abuse website and decided to highlight some of the cases on an ongoing basis. The more this information is talked and written about; maybe we as humans can learn and be more passionate and civil about animal welfare. Grey Poodle is shocked and discussed about crazy animal abusers. If you know or suspect abuse in your neighborhood, feel free to report abuse to authorities as we should not tolerate any abuse of animals or humans.
A Sponsylvania Virginia 66 year old man, who has been registered as a sex offender since 2005 for convictions for sexual crimes against a child was arrested for bestiality. He admitted to messing around with his pet female German Shepard to members of his family. Was he proud that he had kicked his fondness of molesting children and moved over to molesting his loving pet? Grey Poodle thinks this sicko should be neutered like many innocent dogs are.
Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, police in Peotone Illinois confiscated 49 animals from Nikima Wright for running a puppy mill without a license. At the time the dogs were malnourished and had urine and feces encrusted on them. They were stacked in cages three or four high. The dogs in ages ranging from 3 months to 7 years old consisted of Poodles, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Maltese and various mixed breeds and according to authorities at least a dozen could have perished within a week in the unheated garage. Many of the dogs were dehydrated and malnourished. According to a news report the puppies from these dogs were sold for $600 to $700 each and that Ms. Wright would always deliver the dogs and not let any customers visit at her house. At the time of the raid there were 15 puppies inside the house, but they were not confiscated due to being too young. Ms. Wright got a lawyer to fight the charges, and Grey Poodle is happy to report she did not get them back. What is hard to believe is that while all this was playing out, Ms. Wright was able to get a dog breeding license by paying a $25 fee and filling out forms with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. They said their hands were tied. Grey Poodle thinks that animal abusers should not get a second chance. How can Ms. Wright be so cruel and put money in front of loving innocent animals?
81 year old Aylen Icgoron has spent her golden years abusing cats in Columbia, Maryland along with her 52 year old daughter. In this case the apple does not fall far from the tree. When authorities, acting on complaints from neighbors about the stench from their townhouse, they found 70 or more dead cats and 58 living sickly cats. Out of the 58 live cats 50 had to be put to sleep and subsequently 5 more died. They had bloody pays, blindness and much difficulty breathing. Authorities found eight inches of feces on the garage floor where most of the cats were. Grey Poodle is discussed by this neglect. I guess these animal abusers have not heard of BioBags and have no idea of how to respect animals and keep them healthy in a clean condition. Because of Ms. Icgoron’s older age she got six months in jail after violating probation by continuing to be cruel to another cat while her daughter is still in jail awaiting trial. What is wrong with them? Grey Poodle thinks they should be locked in a room where they have to smell their own poop and live in it.

Grey Poodle Against The Plastic Bags
By Grey Poodle of www.LuckyDogMart.com
As I’ve written in many previous posts, dog owners need to get on board with picking up after their pets in a responsible manner with a biodegradable and compostable product. Plastic bags from stores, while convenient, cheap and free do not degrade and last in the environment forever. You may save money in the short term, but in the long term the earth is getting trashed. Since plastic bags have been around for the past 50-60 years, they have grossly polluted just about every area in the world. It is estimated that 100 billion plastic bags are thrown away per year in the United States after consumers have had the convenience of taking their groceries, prescriptions, fast food, or any number of things home with them. Many of the inks used to write on these bags contain lead or other toxins. These 100 billion trashed convenient bags are made of petroleum or natural gas, which is roughly equivalent to 12 million 55-gallon drums of oil being needlessly wasted into the environment. The difference is that if you dumped 12 million barrels of oil (which is a natural product) in the ground the oil will biodegrade eventually, but plastic bags will last forever. Even the bags that advertise degradable bags, they degrade into smaller and smaller pieces, which stay in the environment forever. Do not get tricked by advertised degradable bags, they are lying too you and only want to make a profit. Buy only advertised compostable biodegradable bags, which are made with corn.
Americans recycle about 2 percent of the plastic used in the U.S., while worldwide only about 1 percent of plastic is recycled, so where does the rest of the trillions of plastic bags used world wide end up? The United Nations Environment Program estimates that every square mile of ocean has at least 46,000 pieces of plastic garbage in it. 1000 miles off the coast of California is the North Pacific Ocean Gyre where ocean currents circulate and with the added mix of plastic as well as other garbage has created a big mass of floating trash the size of Alaska. Fifty or sixty years ago, the oceans did not have petroleum based plastic trash in it. The Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation estimates that 100,000 turtles and marine mammals, and 1,000,000 birds are killed each year by ingesting or entanglement from plastic waste so carelessly put into the natural environment. We can do better.
Recently in California, San Francisco and Oakland banned the use of plastic bags with other communities such as Santa Monica and some cities in other States thinking about it. Think fast America, protect our shared environment and use reusable or biodegradable bags. Plastic Bag manufacturers are fighting these bans and just care about their profits. Thailand, Taiwan, South Africa, Ireland and Bangladesh have cut back the use of plastic bags drastically. Since 2002, a 22-cent tax on plastic bags in Ireland has cut the use of them by roughly 90 percent! I think a tax on plastic bags here would get people to be more responsible by reusing bags, using biodegradable bags or using cloth bags. It’s not that hard or to inconvenient to make a difference.

Get Involved - Help Clean Up Your Local Beach
By Grey Poodle of www.LuckyDogMart.com
Lets draw an ideal picture of a beautiful day on the beach. Lets imagine lying down on the clean beige sparkling sand, enjoying the sound of the ocean with shiny sunny light around you. On the opposite, lets imagine lying down on stinky oily sand with chewing gum, cigarette buttes, plastic bottles, candy wrappers, dirty diapers, condoms, left behind underwear and other trash around you. Lets add to this picture many flies around eating leftover food. Which picture would you prefer?
Cigarette butts take up to 12 years to decompose. Glass bottles take over 1000 years to decompose if ever. In 2008, 70,000 volunteers picked up 1,600,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California beaches, lakes and waterways on the California Coastal Cleanup Day! Since 1985, 700,000 California volunteers have cleaned up about 13,000,000 pounds of trash from beaches along the California Coast. This year California Coastal Cleanup Day is September 19, 2009 from 9 a.m. till noon so it gives us all a chance to put it on our calendars and to decide we can help out if just for one day. For information on a cleanup site near you visit www.coastal.ca.gov . If you are busy this particular day, you can make any day a trash cleanup day just by getting some biodegradable trash bags and start filling them up at your favorite lake or beach or wherever you see unsightly trash. Don’t forget to always cleanup after your dog with biodegradable dog waste bags, which can be bought at www.LuckyDogMart.com
