“Marley and Me” – Some Thoughts

What an amazing and touching true biographical life story of the movie and book “Marley and Me” is. When Jennifer and Owen Wilson’s characters came to pick a dog there was many adorable puppies, but Marley got in front of Jennifer’s character and picked her. It is almost similar to how my dog picked me. I also was told that my dog was difficult compared to the rest of the puppies in the litter and that my puppy was barky and did not get along with the other pups or people and that I should choose another one. When she jumped on my knees and I looked in her eyes, I knew she was the one. This moment when you find each other is magical in the sense that you just know. The difference between Marleys’ untrainability as portrayed in the movie is that they should have continued training as long as it takes. Well I believe there are no un-trainable dogs, but just people who give up. It is easy for me to say because it was a piece of cake to train my poodle, as she is sharp as a tack. On the other hand in the movie, Marleys uniqueness and character is what makes the movie so heartwarming and funny. Marley had so much personality and unconditional love to give to the family.

One of the moments in the movie when the dog came out of the window of the car made me very nervous. It could have caused an accident or worse. The dog owners need to realize how silly and irresponsible by not using some sort of pet car harness, dog carrier, pet barrier or restraint to not let the dog get out the window in the first place. They would not put their child in the car without a safety seat, so why should a dog be any different? It made the movie funny, but in real life they were lucky that it did not cause an accident or that Marley did not get hurt or killed.

Another episode in the movie is when Marley was let off his lease at the public dog beach to go frolic in the ocean and did his business in the water. Yes, again it is really funny, but there is less and less beaches left for dogs to be allowed. It seems everyone wants to blame all problems with sewage in the water on animals instead of humans taking responsibility for their trash and other pollutants. We dog owners need to be aware and keep the few beaches still open for dogs clean and open for the future. When Marley went in the ocean swimming and playing, the dog owner should have been in the ocean with him swimming and playing as well with biodegradable dog waste bags at the ready. I’m with the responsible and obnoxious dog owner earlier in the movie when Marley was a puppy running after the birds on the beach. The movie kind of made that dog owner look crazy and goofy, but he was just trying to keep the public dog beach open for the future. I would love for my dog to be able to run free without the lease after the birds or swimming and jumping with me, but I prefer to still have a beach that I can share with my dog. All in all, I think “Marley and Me” is a wonderful family movie.

Can Your Dog Waste Disappear?

I was recently re-watching the movie “Envy” by an Oscar winning director Barry Levinson, which starred Ben Stiller and Jack Black from 2004. Jack Black’s character after watching a dog relive itself came up with a spray “Vaporize” which would make dog poop disappear. Would it not be wonderful for dog owners to have a magic spray instead of bending their bodies and have the pleasure of picking up warm dog poop in their plastic bag and feel it in their hand. Would it not be great for the environment for poop to “disappear” and no plastic bags would be needed? Well, its not lala land and in the movie environmental protesters were concerned “where does the shit go”? Anyhow the idea of disappearing your dog’s poop would be easier and improbable, so don’t get your hopes too high. You are stuck with cleaning up after your dog the “old fashioned” way forever. Please make it easy for the environment by using BioBags the Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags from www.LuckyDogMart.com.
