Sophie Tucker the Queensland Heeler Dog survived falling overboard in rough seas off the northeast Queensland coast in Australia. She swam five nautical miles to Saint Bees Island, a roughly unpopulated Island. It is amazing how Sophie was able to figure out which direction she needed to swim to make it to the island. We don’t know if it was blind luck or if you look at her picture, she is a very smart girl indeed. She lived a Robinson Carousel life for four months. She lived off of wild feral goats, plants, insects and whatever else she could find. She took care of herself pretty well. When island Rangers caught her she was in great shape, pretty muscular and healthy. She was ferrousous and independent and did not like being caught by anyone. On one hand, she liked the wild life and on the other she missed her family. Her owners, the Griffiths, were devastated by her loss and kept the hope that somehow she did not drown and kept checking with authorities about found dogs. Grey Poodle is happy for Sophie and her family. You go girl! Now, instead of being the master of her own island doing her business wherever she feels like, she is on a leash and her owners happily cleanup after her hopefully with BioBags. Her feces on the island have biodegraded by now and fertilized some plants and the goats do not have to be on the lookout anymore.
